Sail & Ski – Guided Backcountry Skiing & Freeride Trips from Lyngseidet/ Tromsø
Join us for a guided Sail & Ski backcountry skiing and freeride adventure from Tromsø. Our base for the trip is the beautiful sailing yacht SISU.
Programme
Day 1 – Arrival
4:00 PM: Meet in Lyngseidet.
If you are flying to Tromsø, you can travel from Tromsø to Lyngseidet by bus. We will provide more detailed arrival instructions after booking.
We will get to know each other, familiarise ourselves with the yacht and go through important safety matters at sea.
We then sail towards the destination for the following day’s backcountry skiing adventure. Dinner on board and preparations for the next day’s ski tour.
Days 2–4 – Backcountry skiing & sailing
Our guide and skipper team will carefully plan each day’s adventure according to the current snow, weather and avalanche conditions.
We will head out to enjoy the best snow and backcountry skiing the conditions have to offer.
The days include breakfast, packed lunch and dinner.
Day 5 – Departure
We return to Lyngseidet and it is time to pack up for your journey home.
Check-out is by 12:00 noon at the latest.
Equipment & practical information
Adventure Partners offers freeride and backcountry skiing equipment for rent if needed.
A packing list and further practical information will be provided after booking.
This is a low-threshold Sail & Ski adventure. No previous sailing experience is required.
The guided backcountry skiing takes place on terrain with a maximum slope angle of approximately 30 degrees.
You should have sufficient skiing ability to ski intermediate-level pistes in varying snow conditions.
Price
€2,500 per person.
A €700 deposit is payable upon booking. The remaining balance is due 60 days before the start of the trip.
The Sail & Ski guided backcountry skiing trip includes
- A professional skipper and freeride ski guide for a maximum of 5 guests throughout the trip
- 3 guided backcountry skiing days, combined with sailing and accommodation aboard the yacht
- An opportunity to learn about sailing during the trip and participate in planning backcountry ski tours
- Guidance on choosing safe ascent and descent routes and making decisions in the mountains
- Shared meals according to the programme above
The trip price does not include
In addition to the shared meals included in the programme, the price does not include:
- Snacks, personal treats or alcoholic beverages
- Personal clothing and equipment required for the trip

Requirements
Skiing ability:
You should be able to ski intermediate-level pistes and make turns in varying snow conditions. Some previous experience skiing outside groomed pistes is recommended.
Equipment
- Backcountry skiing equipment: skis, ski boots, touring bindings and skins. For snowboarders: a splitboard, skins and adjustable poles. Equipment can be rented from Adventure Partners if needed. For more information, please contact teija(at)adventurepartners.fi.
- Avalanche safety equipment: avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. These can be borrowed from Adventure Partners for the duration of the trip if you do not yet have your own equipment. Please let us know in advance if you need to borrow equipment.
- Weather-appropriate clothing, an insulated jacket for breaks, backpack, thermos and water bottle
- Snacks for the day
- Sunglasses, sun protection and ski goggles
- Ski helmet
- If available, you may also bring a compass, an altimeter watch, maps of the area and a Tromsø-region backcountry skiing guidebook
Typical structure of the backcountry skiing days
Participants make their own way to the meeting point in Lyngseidet. More detailed arrival instructions will be provided after booking.
Our days usually start at around 9:00 AM and finish at approximately 4:00 PM, depending on the conditions.
In addition to backcountry skiing, the programme includes some trip planning and other relevant theory.
The exact schedule will depend largely on the snow and weather conditions, avalanche situation and the wishes of the group.
Requirements
Skiing ability:
You should be able to ski intermediate-level pistes, or have some previous experience skiing outside groomed pistes.
Other important information
We strongly recommend taking out accident and travel insurance that covers off-piste and backcountry skiing.
