Successful winter sailing in arctic waters is all about hands on skills and experience – you need to log your miles. Class room is no substitute, and vice versa.
This is not a sailing course, we sail together and we learn together. Welcome to log your miles on our monthly high latitude sail training camps.
Each winter month we will arrange a five day training camp focusing on skills and techniques required for safe an successful sailing on high latitude waters. We will depart from Tromsø, Norway and head for sailing adventure on surrounding waters.
The route planning will be part of the camp, so we’ll make a sailing plan together as a crew, taking in account the weather, conditions and the team.
With any luck we will also enjoy magnificent northern light shows and maybe encounter some orcas and humpback whales in their natural habitat.
Camp activities includes:
- Route & passage planinnig
- Risk assesment & mitigation
- Special weather considerations
- Preparations for yourself
- Preparations for the boat
- Polar night navigation
- Whale and orca watching
- Experiencing the northern lights from the sea
- Everything being part of the sailing crew

Life Is Different Aboard a Sailing Yacht
Meet Sisu — our sailing yacht built for adventure.
She’s an OVNI Alubat, constructed in France and jolly good tool for the purpose. Take a look at stunning photos & videos from our adventures on Sisu Instagram page!
OVNIs are specially designed for Arctic conditions and built to withstand intensive use, making them the perfect choice for blue water sailing. In fact, the OVNI Alubat is also trusted by the French Navy as their training vessel! Accommodation will be on board the Ovni Alubat 495 yacht.
On our trips, you become part of the crew.
You’ll take part in all aspects of running the boat—including navigation, sailing, and daily tasks. Cooking is a shared responsibility and rotates among everyone on board.
Please note that winter sailing in arctic latitudes is weather dependent and program might need to be adjusted accordingly. The safety of the crew is always top priority, in rare case of severe winter storm even cancellation is a possibility. In case of cancellation the trip cost will be refunded, but travelling, lodging and any other 3rd party expenses are not compensated, so suitable insurance is recommended
