One-Day Introduction to mountaineering

This one-day course is designed for anyone interested in alpine climbing – whether you’re planning your first mountaineering trip or just curious about the skills involved. The course focuses on moving safely and efficiently in steep terrain using ropes, ice axes, crampons, and ascenders.

You’ll learn how to move with mountaineering boots and crampons, and get hands-on experience with ice and snow climbing using two ice axes. The day also includes a gear consultation tailored for mountain environments, and you’ll have the opportunity to test a wide range of equipment.

Participants are welcome to send in questions in advance, especially regarding gear choices or other concerns related to upcoming climbs or expeditions.

The course fee includes instruction by an experienced instructor and the rental of all technical mountaineering and glacier equipment. All you need to bring are weather-appropriate outdoor clothing and your own lunch/snacks.

The course is held at the Nuuksio Ice Park, which offers excellent conditions for practicing alpine climbing techniques.
