Description
Guided Ski Touring and Freeride Trips in the Svalbard Mountains include three days of freeride trips starting from Longyearbyen. Both skiers and snowboarders are welcome!
We are organizing 3-day guided ski touring trips in the Svalbard Mountains during the 2027 season.
Dates: May 7th-10th, 2027.
Price: €900. A spot is reserved by paying a €500 deposit, with the remaining balance due 60 days before the trip.
The Svalbard ski touring and freeride trip includes:
- Three guided ski touring days. Svalbard is a unique freeride destination. Our professional freeride guides have extensive local knowledge, as well as stories and insights into the history, nature, and wildlife of Svalbard.
- One day will be dedicated to snowmobile-assisted access instead of using skins. This will be a longer trip farther from the village.
- Throughout the trip, you’ll have the chance to plan daily routes, choose safe ascent and descent routes, and make decisions regarding your journey.
- Guidance on avalanche safety gear use and how to recognize avalanche terrain.
- A group kick-off dinner at a local restaurant on the evening of May 7th at 20:00 (drinks not included in the package).
- If necessary, we can loan avalanche rescue equipment for the trip.
The trip price does not include:
- Transportation
- Accommodation
- Meals (other than the kick-off dinner)
- Personal clothing and equipment needed for the trip
Each day, we start the ski touring trip from the village of Longyearbyen. We will select a ski hill (or two) for the day, using skins to ascend, and one day, we will use snowmobiles for part of the journey. We’ll enjoy descents in breathtaking, unique landscapes. During the days, we’ll also visit stunning glacier caves along the skinning routes. Along the way, we will practice route selection for ascents and descents, as well as assess conditions and decision-making.
Pre-trip information and fitness requirements:
- Skiing ability: Ability to ski intermediate slopes and make turns in varying snow conditions. Some experience skiing outside of groomed runs is beneficial.
- Ability to skin for 6-hour days, with around 1000 vertical meters of ascent.
Equipment: – Ski touring equipment (skis, boots, bindings, skins, and crampons – snowboarders need splitboard, skins, crampons, and adjustable poles. Crampons are specific to bindings, so we recommend purchasing your own well in advance. You can rent equipment from Adventure Partners if needed. Please inquire at teija(at)adventurepartners.fi for more details).
– Avalanche safety equipment (avalanche beacon, shovel, probe; available for loan from Adventure Partners for the duration of the trip if you don’t have your own. Let us know in advance if you need a loan set).
– Weather-appropriate clothing, a break jacket, a backpack, thermos, water bottle, snacks.
– Sunglasses, sunscreen, ski goggles.
– Ski helmet.
– Crampons.
– If you have them, bring a compass, altimeter watch, and area maps.
Typical daily itinerary for the ski touring trip:
In Svalbard during spring, daylight lasts a long time, so we can adjust the daily schedule flexibly based on weather and conditions. The days are planned to start no earlier than 10:00 and end around 17:00. Afterward, there will be an optional after-ski gathering. The program will include ski touring as well as some trip planning and theory. The schedule will primarily be based on conditions and weather.
Pre-trip information:
- Skiing ability: should be able to ski intermediate slopes with various snow conditions or have some experience skiing off-piste.
Other:
- We recommend purchasing an off-piste ski insurance policy that covers skiing and snowboarding outside of marked trails.
Welcome!
The minimum age for our trips is 14 when accompanied with the parent. We also recommend purchasing accident insurance that covers off-piste skiing.
